The Hetjens German Ceramics Museum in Duesseldorf officially launched its fundraising campaign by allegorically topping the newly installed artwork “Between Heaven and Earth” by Anke Eilergerhard next to the Old Port with a “blob of cream”.

With her sculpture, a gothic style gate topped with a cap of cream Anke Eilergerhard pays tribute to her beloved whipped cream. “For me a cap of cream is the perfect sculptural form, reflecting the longing for paradise.” Born in Wuppertal, she grew up indulging in sweets. However, it was not only the obligatory whipped cream for the “Bergische Kaffeetafel”, but also her grandmother’s traditional afternoon coffee parties that arouse her interest in the particular aesthetics of sweets. “

Parallel to “Heaven and Earth” the Hetjens presents “Anke Eilergerhard – Dolcissima”, the artist’s current series of 11 works - some in life-size.

Miriam Koch, City Councillor of Culture and Integration:  “The newly unveiled sculpture by Anke Eilergerhard next to the Old Port impressively illustrates that art can offer new perspectives and at the same time playfully combine various topics. Today’s “topping” of the work of art is a smart kick-off to the Hetjens’ fundraising campaign.”

It has been a long-cherished wish by the Friends of the Hetjens Museum to establish a café in the museum, where visitors can experience for themselves the delights of coffee and cake. Longer opening hours can be offered, once the pottery atelier has moved into a neighbouring house. Thereafter, the entrance will be relocated to its original site the “Kastanienhof” and the present entrance will become a new exhibition cube.
In order to support this project the fundraising campaign “With cream, please” has been launched. The patrons are Clara Gerlach and Joseph Hinkel, both Mayors of Duesseldorf.

Your donation for this project is very much appreciated.
